Second Hand Dance creates bold, visceral, innovative dance performances and digital dance films. We subtly challenge the status quo by creating equitable playful, shared experiences for children and adults.
Female led, and run by disabled and non disabled co-directors, we align with the social model of disability. We co-create our professional performance work with, and for, children. Our creative process is child led and uses non-verbal communication techniques, improvisation, observation and listening. We advocate for the value, and development, of the Performance for Young Audiences sector and removing barriers for disabled audiences and artists to engage in high quality dance performances.
Our vision is a world where dance, empathy, play and exploratory movement are central to the lives of children and adults, as vital and fluent as language.
In the last 10 years we have performed 713 times at 309 venues across 18 countries and regularly participate in sector leadership development group and consultations.
We are part of the Arts Council England National Portfolio and sit on the Assitej UK Board.
We work locally, regional national and internationally from performing at The Lincoln Centre in New York, to SEND schools in South Korea.
