A bold and colourful show exploring clothes and identity
Getting Dressed delves into the movement and humour of clothes; how you put them on, take them off, share them and express yourself, your identity, your gender... And, get stuck in them.
Getting dressed by yourself is a huge milestone as a child; it shows independence, technical capability, maturity and the identity we choose to present to the wider world. Made for 4–7 year olds and their families Getting Dressed subtly challenges the conventions, peer pressures and popular culture influences children encounter when starting school.
Post performance the company run a 15 minute Stay and Play in the auditorium where audiences are invited to dress-up just a little bit differently.
Getting Dressed premiered in 2017, where it was performed 25 times in 14 venues across the UK. Since its premiere it has been presented at Belfast International Children’s Festival, Think Big! Festival (Munich) and a 4 week tour of Sweden with Salto!

We can offer the following workshops around the show:
- Pre and post-show foyer activity creatively dressing mannequins
- Dressing-up and dance workshops (up to 45 mins) for families or school groups
- Choreographic master-class/CPD workshops for artists interested in making work for young audiences (between 0.5 day to 3 days)

There is a pleasing sense of freedom from gender stereotype here. Tweed skirts on men, boxer shorts on women – it is the childish glee that matters here.
