Our founder and Artistic Director, Rosie Heafford, has released an impassioned statement on our evolution as a company. Since 2017, we have begun to identify as a disabled-led company, and now the time feels right to speak about this publicly.
We are dedicated to embedding access and inclusion into all our work going forwards. Find out more about what that means to Rosie, and to us, in her statement.
Second Hand Dance are thrilled to have been awarded £100K across two years from Arts Council England’s Elevate fund. Elevate funds invest in the resilience of organisations making a significant contribution to the Creative Case for Diversity. Second Hand Dance is one of 45 companies from across England that secured the funding, one of only six dance companies and one of four companies from the South East of England that were successful.
Collaborating with South East Dance, Pavilion Dance South West and Great Ormand Street Hospital this provides an opportunity for the company to reflect on the successful dance shows we have made over the past seven years and build resilience through partnerships for future projects. We will be creating the resources to support the company to champion exceptional dance for children and young people.
It is a fantastic opportunity, and we can’t wait to get started.
