Chisenhale Collaborative Commission

This project started with a blind date. 6 artists were selected, 3 dance artists + 3 visual artists, and put together in pairs for a short commission presented at an open weekend filled with critical debate around collaboration in the Chisenhale buildings (across the dance space, artist studios and gallery).

Rosie Heafford and Richard Layzell were paired together and created a response that looked at the Chisenhale building as a community. What is now known as Chisenhale Dance Space, Chisenhale Gallery and Chisenhale Art Place is the result of a group of artists taking over the derelict building at the beginning of the 1980s. Chairing the first cross-organisation meeting since these artist's first moved in, Rosie and Richard performed, facilitated and organised information for participants to connect to the buildings memories, uses and members.
